A record number of women were elected as members of the House of Commons after the parliamentary elections in Great Britain, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

According to data this morning, a record 261 women were elected as members of parliament, which represents 40% of all parliamentary seats. This number may still grow as the final votes are tallied.

The achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2019, when 220 women took parliamentary seats in the House of Commons.

This election marks the sixth consecutive time that the number of women in parliament has increased, highlighting a steady trend towards greater gender equality in the country's political landscape.
