At a high level! NATO has promised membership to Ukraine, but not immediately - 1

NATO published an extensive joint declaration from the summit in Washington. It includes the themes and wording previously revealed in the project leaked to the press, the BBC summarized.

The declaration includes words about the "irreversible path" of Ukraine to NATO, as well as formulations and conditions that were first sounded a year ago at the summit in Vilnius: "Ukraine's future in NATO. Ukraine is becoming increasingly operationally and politically integrated into the Alliance [...].

We will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership. We reaffirm that we will be able to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance when the Allies agree and the conditions are met."

The document also talks about the creation of structures within NATO to coordinate support for Ukraine.

First of all, the NATO Security Assistance and Training Service in Ukraine (NSATU) will be established, noting that the fact of the existence of such a permanent structure "under international law will not make NATO a party to the conflict" .

NSATU will be responsible for transforming the Ukrainian army and security forces with a view to their further integration into NATO.

Secondly, the countries of the Alliance undertook a "Commitment for long-term security assistance to Ukraine".

For next year, the allies intend to provide a minimum of 40 billion euros, which will be distributed among them proportionally.

This money will be used for Ukraine's defense needs.

Third, a joint NATO-Ukraine Center for Analysis, Training and Education will be established to learn lessons from the war and deepen interoperability between Ukraine and NATO.

The alliance will also provide new air defense systems to Ukraine.
