Five people died in the explosion of a car bomb in the capital of Somalia - Mogadishu. The explosion took place next to a cafe filled with people who were watching the final of the Euro 2024 football championship on television, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA, citing local media and the police.

"According to the preliminary data of the police, the dead are five, and the wounded - about 20," said its spokesperson - Abdifita Aden Hasan, quoted by the national news agency. The Somali national television reported the same.

Most of the victims were in the street at the time of the explosion, said an eyewitness quoted by the Associated Press.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The "Al Qaeda" the jihadist group "Ash Shabab" however, it has frequently carried out bombings and other attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia.

Mogadishu has been relatively calm in recent months, but on Saturday five inmates, believed to be militants of the radical Islamic group, were killed in a shootout while trying to escape from Mogadishu's main prison. According to the prison administration, three guards were killed and 18 were wounded.
