Crimea could become an island - 1

The temporarily Russian-occupied Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea could be cut off from Russia and effectively turn into an island.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Naval Forces of Ukraine Dmytro Pletenchuk. His comment was made after Ukrainian forces struck the Russian ship "Slavyanin" used by the occupiers for military logistics in southern Ukraine.

„The situation for the Russians is quite complicated and Crimea, where it all started (the Russian Federation annexed the peninsula in 2014). They use Crimea as an element of imperial propaganda, as the jewel in their royal crown. In fact, Crimea is in the most vulnerable position, which is why the peninsula can turn into an island at any moment, Pletenchuk said, quoted by the UNIAN agency.

He added that now is the time for those who arrived illegally in Crimea to leave it. Pletenchuk explained that before the invaders even used large landing ships for their military logistics, but after the defeat of several units, they realized that this was extremely dangerous. Therefore, the enemy started a hybrid method of delivery - along with the military component, they also used civilian ships, in particular ferries.

Ukraine has launched a number of successful strikes against Russian military targets in Crimea since the full-scale invasion and forced the Russian Black Sea Fleet to evacuate away from the peninsula. The Russians, realizing how vulnerable they were, began to build rail logistics on land. Kiev has repeatedly indicated that Crimea will be liberated sooner or later.
