Israeli Air Force fighter jets attacked a Shiite militia Hezbollah post in the town of al-Khyam in southern Lebanon in response to rocket attacks on the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee.
As the TV channel Al Jadeed reported, the planes carried out two attacks on the base of Shiite fighters, they attacked firing points and ammunition depots.
Earlier, Israeli artillery opened heavy fire on the outskirts of the village of Shebaa, from where the Israeli military said it launched an attack on the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights. As a result of the fall of one of the rockets on the sports ground there 12 children died.
Hezbollah told the command of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon that the group was not the author of the rocket attack.
„The cause of the civilian deaths was the fall of an Israeli anti-missile munition”, the statement said “The Islamic Resistance is not responsible for this incident”.
Earlier, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said that "peacekeepers are concerned about the possibility of an escalation of the conflict in southern Lebanon following the shelling of the village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights". The Blue Helmets command is in constant contact with the Lebanese and Israeli sides to reduce tension along the border, he said.
On July 27, the Shiite militia Hezbollah fired more than 100 rounds from multiple launch rocket systems at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee from southern Lebanon. According to the formation's military summary published on its Telegram channel, a total of 12 operations were conducted against enemy forces in response to the killing of four Islamic resistance fighters during an Israeli air force strike on the town of Kfar Qila.
The Israeli military believes that the attack on the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights was carried out by an Iranian Falaq-1 missile from the Hezbollah arsenal. As Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari told reporters, this conclusion was made based on an inspection of the scene.
