Police in Satu Mare County, Northwestern Romania, searched for several hours, including by helicopter, for two armed Ukrainian citizens who entered the territory of Romania, after allegedly attacking a Ukrainian border patrol, reports “Digi 24”.
The signal about the incident and the departure of the Ukrainians to Romania was submitted yesterday to the Romanian border police in Satu Mare on the border with Ukraine by their Ukrainian colleagues. He was also handed over to the Satu Mare District Police Inspectorate and the Romanian Gendarmerie District Inspectorate. The two Ukrainians were found after a few hours.
According to the Romanian portal “Pressa Satu Mare“ (PresaSM) authorities in Ukraine initially reported that it was three people who allegedly fled to the territory of Romania. It was later established that it was only two people, both of whom were detained a few hours after the report was made. Law enforcement officers in Satu Mare recovered a weapon after arresting one of the suspects.
Referring to “Press Satu Mare“, “Ukrainskaya Pravda“ reports that the reasons why the Ukrainians attacked the border patrol and later fled to Romania are unknown, "Digi 24" notes. However, they wanted to request “political asylum” by the Romanian authorities.
According to the same source, about 11,000 Ukrainians illegally crossed the border with Romania to avoid mobilization after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
