The Israeli army destroyed a tunnel 1, 5 km used by “Hamas” in the Gaza Strip, having previously found weapons, explosives and equipment in it, reported DPA, referring to an army spokesman, BTA reports.
The fighters of “Hamas“ had left the tunnel area, near Khan Younis in the southern part of the enclave, before Israeli forces arrived, he added.
The Israeli army announced that in recent months it has been constantly discovering and destroying parts of the “Hamas” tunnel system.
Members of the Islamist group have dug an extensive network of tunnels in the Gaza Strip where fighters can stay for long periods of time, the Israeli army added.
Tunnels were also used as escape and supply routes. The system has a total length of several hundred kilometers, specified the spokesman of the Israeli army.
