Russia today carried out a massive strike against Ukraine, which disrupted the power grid and rail transport of weapons and ammunition to the front, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed, quoted by Reuters, BTA writes.
Ukrainian officials earlier announced that Russia had fired more than 100 missiles and about 100 combat drones against Ukraine, killing at least five people.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Russian forces fired missiles from the air and sea, and that the strikes hit electrical substations in nine Ukrainian regions and gas compressor stations in three regions.
„This morning, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive strike with long-range precision weapons from the air and sea, as well as operational and tactical aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles on critical energy infrastructure sites supporting the operation of military - the industrial complex of Ukraine”, the ministry said.
It added that Russia had also struck storage bases storing aviation munitions transferred to Kiev from Western countries at two airports. Reuters specifies that this is a reference to the recent deliveries of F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian Air Force.
„All intended targets were hit, resulting in disruption of power supply and the transportation - by rail - of armaments and ammunition to the line of contact,” the statement said.
