Top EU diplomat: Kiev's allies to lift restrictions on striking targets in Russia - 1

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called today on Ukraine's allies to lift restrictions on hitting targets in Russia with the weapons they provided, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The United States is limiting the use of the long-range ballistic missiles it provides to Ukraine. Restrictions on the use of weapons provided by Ukraine have also been introduced by some countries of the European Union.

Kiev wants to strike military airfields and other military facilities on the territory of Russia from which Russian forces launch attacks against Ukraine.

"We must lift the restrictions on the use of weapons against Russian military targets, in accordance with international law,", said Josep Borrell on the background of today's meeting in Brussels of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.

"The weapons we are giving Ukraine must be used to their full potential and the restrictions must be lifted so that Ukrainians can attack the places from which Russia is bombing them. Otherwise, the weapons are useless," Borrell told reporters.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is also in Brussels, said that "whether Russia will succeed or not depends on only one thing: the willingness of partners to take bold decisions. If these decisions are made, Ukraine will be successful on the battlefield. If they are not taken, don't complain about Ukraine, complain about yourself," Kuleba also said.

The Ukrainian minister stressed that Kiev wants to attack only "legitimate military targets" on the territory of Russia.

"I call on the European Union to be active and to say clearly and loudly that some things must be done immediately,", Kuleba said upon his arrival in Brussels for the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries, France Press reported .
