The opposition Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (SDPL) will try to form a coalition government with two more formations after parliamentary elections in the country, said the leader of the party Vilia Blinkevičute, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

The first results from yesterday's first round show a lead for SDPL. The election was marked by anxiety over the cost of living and potential threats from neighboring Russia.

"I think it will be a coalition with two left parties", Blinkevičiute told journalists, clarifying that he meant the parties "Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens" and Democratic Union "For Lithuania"." I think this will be a good left-wing coalition," she added.

With just over 60% of the votes counted, the SDPL has 22% support, making it the largest party. It ranks ahead of the anti-system formation "Dawn of Nemunas", which receives 17%, and the governing Union "Fatherland". - by 15%.

Voter turnout has exceeded 52%, up from 47.2% four years ago, official figures show.

Blinkevichute noted that foreign policy will not change and aid to Ukraine remains a priority. "I think our voters, our people said they want some changes," she said, citing income, housing, health care and education as key problem areas.
