An air alert was declared last night in the northern part of Romania's Tulcea district after groups of drones were spotted on Sunday evening , aimed at the airspace of Ukraine near the airspace of Romania, Agerpress agency reported.
„The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a new series of drone attacks against Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure near the river border with Romania. As a result of the detection over the Black Sea of groups of drones that were heading towards the airspace of Ukraine near the airspace of Romania, the National Center of the Military Command has informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations at 23:34 to declare an air alarm in the northern area of Tulcha district. To monitor the situation in the airspace, two F-16 fighters of the Romanian Air Force, which are on combat duty in the Air Police, took off from the 86th Borca Air Base, the Ministry of National Defense of Romania informed.
The air alert was terminated around 00:45, and the fighters returned to the base, the ministry also reported.
The radar surveillance system, which has been continuously monitoring the situation, has not detected any penetration into Romania's airspace.
According to the established procedure, this morning the forces of the Ministry of National Defense will survey the areas located near the attacked targets to check for the presence of fallen objects or their remains.
The Ministry of National Defense has once again strongly condemned the attacks of the Russian Federation against civilian targets and elements of the civil infrastructure of Ukraine, reminding that they are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law, informs Agerpress.
Romania, which is a member of the EU and NATO, has a 650-kilometer common border with Ukraine. Since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine in February 2022, several cases of violations of Romania's airspace by drones attacking targets in Ukraine have been recorded. Debris from drones also fell on Romanian territory several times.
