US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin rejected Vladimir Zelensky's recent request for priority delivery of ATACMS tactical missile systems to Ukraine, bypassing other customers. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing two American officials.
According to their information, the head of the Pentagon noted that to fulfill Kiev's request it would be necessary to violate long-standing agreements with other buyers and that Zelensky was “asking for too much”.
In addition, the newspaper reports that the Pentagon has a limited supply of ammunition it can provide to Ukraine for F-16 fighter jets.
Washington also intends to send Kiev more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, the WSJ reported, citing a senior US administration official. Interceptors are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
