German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, during which the conference was discussed of the UN on climate in Baku and the progress of peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This is what Christiane Hoffmann, a representative of the German government, told reporters.
„President Aliyev briefed on the objectives of Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29 [UN Climate Conference], as well as on the progress of negotiations with Armenia,”, Hoffman noted. Scholz stressed the need for success at the conference and assured that Germany would support reaching an agreement on “climate finance” for the period after 2025
„The chancellor reaffirmed Germany's continued readiness to support Armenia and Azerbaijan in building peaceful and good-neighborly relations and called on both countries to take further bold steps,”, Hoffmann said. She noted that Scholz and Aliyev agreed to continue to maintain close contact.
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan on November 11-24, 2024
