A Russian court sentenced a pediatrician to five and a half years in a prison colony on charges of spreading false information for the Russian army, the world agencies reported.

Prosecutors charged 68-year-old Nadezhda Buyanova with “deliberately spreading false statements” for Russian forces after the mother of one of her patients condemned the pediatrician's comments on the Internet about Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

The case against her was filed in February personally by the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia. He was referred by the mother of a seven-year-old boy, who took him for an examination to Buyanova in her clinic. The father of the boy, with whom the woman is divorced, was killed at the front in Ukraine.

The woman, Anastasia Akinshina, recorded a video in which she says Buyanova mentioned the father of her child as a “legitimate target for Ukraine”. The video was published by the "Mash" channel. in the "Telegram" social network, which has over 3 million subscribers and who is close to the Russian security services. Buyanova denies making these statements. In April, she was placed in pre-trial detention.

A group of Russian doctors wrote an open letter in defense of Buyanova, in which they called the report filed against her a “disgrace”. A petition for her release gathered over 6,000 signatures.
