German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Kyiv for the first time in two and a half years to talk with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, DPA and BTA agencies reported.
The visit was not announced in advance for security reasons. Scholz traveled by special train to the Ukrainian capital.
Upon his arrival, he announced that by the end of December, Ukraine would receive a new shipment of weapons, worth 650 million euros ($684 million), for its defense against Russia.
"I would like to clearly state here that Germany will remain the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe," the Chancellor said.
Scholz's last visit to Ukraine took place in June 2020
