The stampede took place at the Basorun Islamic School, located in the city of Ibadan, northwestern Nigeria, according to local police. Thousands of people had gathered at the celebration when organizers began distributing gifts and food. At this event, panic broke out, which led to the tragic incident.
After the incident, police arrested eight people, including the school principal. An investigation has been launched, with authorities charging them with murder.
