Urban fighting in Chasov Yar (in Ukrainian Chasiv Yar), in Donetsk region, continues, although no direct clashes have been recorded in the past 24 hours. Russian forces are concentrating reserves near the city in preparation for new attacks, Ukrinform reports, citing the Ukrainian armed forces, quoted by BTA.
According to the spokesman for the “Khortytsia“ military group, Viktor Trehubov, the strategic importance of Chasov Yar stems from its location on a hill, providing control over key routes to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. This allows Ukrainian forces to monitor enemy movements and inflict serious losses.
"The main fighting is taking place around the refractory materials plant, where Ukrainian troops are successfully repelling enemy advances," Trekhubov said.
In addition to Chasov Yar, tensions remain high in other areas, such as Toretsk, Kurakhovo and Vovchansk. Several dozen clashes are recorded in the region every day, further exacerbating the military situation.
Meanwhile, in Nikopol, a Russian drone hit a central market, wounding eight people. Seven of them are hospitalized. The strike caused significant damage to market infrastructure, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram. The incident follows a Christmas attack on Ukraine's energy system that killed one person. The Ukrainian military said it shot down 20 of the 31 Russian drones launched, preventing further damage.
