US President-elect Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, has postponed his planned visit to Kiev and other European capitals until after Trump takes office on January 20, Reuters reported, citing four informed sources.
In December, the agency reported that as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine, Kellogg had planned to visit Kiev in early January to meet with Ukrainian leaders. His team has also been working to organize visits to Rome and Paris, where meetings with European leaders were planned. Moscow was not included in Kellogg's itinerary.
According to Reuters sources, Kellogg will visit Ukraine after Trump's official inauguration. The date of the visit has not yet been set, and the reasons for the postponement remain unknown.
Neither Kellogg nor the Ukrainian embassy in Washington responded to requests for comment on the subject, Reuters reported.
Trump has promised to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, if not before. Former intelligence and national security officials have expressed doubt that such a feat can be accomplished, in part because Russian President Vladimir Putin may have little incentive to sit at the negotiating table, at least on terms acceptable to Kiev.
