The Ukrainian monitoring project Deep State reported that the Russian military "has occupied Kurakhovo, and has also advanced near Andreyevka, Solyonoe and Novoselka".
On January 6, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Kurakhovo, but the Ukrainian command did not confirm the loss of the city.
The Ukrainian military claims that they continue to hold positions in the city of Kurakhovo today. This was reported to the media by Viktor Tregubov, a representative of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortytsia".
According to him, the Ukrainian armed forces still have positions in Kurakhovo, the Russians have not completely occupied the city.
"According to my information, fighting is taking place in the Kurakhovo area. In particular, Ukrainian positions are held at the thermal power plant, which is part of the city of Kurakhovo, so we cannot say now that the Russian troops have completely captured the city. Although, of course, most of the city there was simply turned into ruins. This must be recognized," Tregubov said.
The city is located west of Donetsk, approximately 20 km in a straight line from the front line, as it was on February 24, 2022. Before the start of the full-scale war, the city of Kurakhovo had a population of about 18,000 and was an important industrial center in the southern part of Donbas.
Due to its location on the Zaporizhia-Donetsk highway, the city was also important as a logistics center for Ukrainian troops when they fought near Mariyka, Ugledar, and Krasnogorovka.
According to the General Staff, 198 military clashes have occurred since the beginning of the past 24 hours.
On the Kharkov direction, Ukrainian troops repelled five enemy attacks in the areas of Volchansk and Staritsa - all clashes have now ended.
On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy stormed the positions of our defenders in the areas of Kucherovka, Petropavlovka, Peschanoe, Zagryzovo, and Lozovaya eleven times, he counted UNIAN.
In the Liman direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russian invaders have attacked the positions of the Ukrainians 39 times in the area of the settlements of Tverdokhlebovo, Grekovka, Zeleny gai, Pervomaisk, Makeevka, Terni and Zarechnoye.
In the Severskoe direction, near the Belogorovka area, the enemy twice attacked the positions of our troops without success.
In the Kramatorsk direction, 32 clashes have been registered so far near Belaya Gora, Predtechino, Chasovoy Yar and Stupochek.
In the Toretskoe direction, the Russians attacked the positions of the defense forces five times. The occupiers concentrated their main offensive efforts near the settlements of Toretsk and Shcherbinovka.
It is noted that in the Pokrovskoye direction, the Russians tried to break through the Ukrainian defenses 61 times near Novopoltavka, Tarasovka, Baranovka, Mirolyubovka, Elizavetovka, Luch, Lisovka, Mirnograd, Novy Trud, Zverevo, Udachnoe, Kotlino, Novoaleksandrovka, Novovasilievka, Novoandreevka, Novaya Elizavetovka, Andreevka, Kurakhovo, Dachne and Yantarnoye.
In the Novopavlivskoye direction, the enemy attacked 12 times in the area of Constantinople, Zelenovka, Razliv, Razdolnoye, Golyama Novoselka and Neskuchne.
They added that in the operational zone in the Kursk region, units of the Ukrainian defense forces repelled 22 attacks by the Russian invaders during the day. The enemy fired over 190 shells, 14 of which were from multi-purpose rocket launchers.
Assault groups of the Russian occupiers have penetrated the battle formation of the Ukrainian troops in the direction of Toretsk. It is noted that over the past 24 hours in the Kramatorsk and Toretsk directions the enemy has attacked the positions of the defense forces in Chasov Yar, in Toretsk and near Belaya Gora.
According to the OSGV "Hotritsa", the enemy has used vehicles that were destroyed to move personnel for an attack in the direction of Shcherbinovka.
