US President Joe Biden has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is in a "difficult situation" after the imposition of large-scale sanctions against Russian oil, AFP reports.
The US and Britain announced large-scale sanctions against the Russian energy sector on January 10, with the companies "Gazprom Neft" in particular falling under the restrictions and "Surgutneftegaz".
"Putin is in a difficult position right now, and I think it's very important that he doesn't have any rest to continue to do the terrible things that he's doing," Biden said.
He also believes that Ukraine has a "real chance to win" if it continues to receive support from the West.
A day earlier, the US announced new sanctions targeting Russia's oil refining industry. The restrictions hit Russian oil giants "Gazprom Neft" and "Surgutneftegaz", among others.
As a result, the UK government announced sanctions against the Russian companies "Gazprom Neft" and "Surgutneftegaz".
