The Kremlin said today that it sees nothing new in US President Donald Trump's threats to impose new sanctions and tariffs on Russia if it does not agree to stop the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump has sanctioned Russia many times during his first term as president. Peskov reiterated that Russia is ready for a fair dialogue with the United States based on mutual respect.
Regarding Russia and the war in Ukraine, Trump said yesterday that "if a deal is not reached soon, there is no other choice but to impose high tariffs and sanctions on all goods that Russia sells to the United States and other countries".
Trump said that he would do Russia and President Putin a very big favor if "this absurd war" were stopped. Earlier this week, he said the conflict was "destroying" Russia.
Donald Trump said yesterday that if Moscow does not make a deal with Ukraine "now", "he will have no choice but to impose high levels of tariffs, fees and sanctions on everything Russia sells to the United States and other countries," Agence France-Presse reported.

The US has already imposed several rounds of sanctions on imports from Russia, which have fallen sharply, from $4.3 billion for the period January-November 2023 to to 2.9 billion for the same period last year. Among the products imported into the United States, fertilizers and metals occupy an important place, AFP recalls.
During his election campaign, Donald Trump had promised to end the war in Ukraine "in 24 hours", without specifying how. Since taking office on Monday, the Republican president has been increasing pressure on his Russian counterpart. A few hours after taking office, he said that Putin was "on the verge of destroying Russia" by refusing to negotiate an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
