Military demonstration in Tehran! Iran unveils new ballistic missile with 1,700 km range - 1

Iran unveiled a new ballistic missile with a range of 1,700 km, called "Etemad" ("Trust" in Farsi), during an official ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Agence France-Presse reported.

State television showed footage of the new missile, developed by Iran's Defense Ministry, which authorities say is part of the country's expanding ballistic missile program.

Western countries have expressed concern about Iran's ballistic missile capabilities, warning that Tehran seeks to destabilize the Middle East. The new missiles have enough range to reach Israel, which remains the Islamic Republic's biggest adversary in the region.

President Pezeshkian said Iran's goal is to strengthen its defense capabilities so that no country dares to attack Iranian territory.

The ceremony was held as part of National Aerospace Day and just days before the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on February 10, 1979.

In recent weeks, Iran has stepped up its displays of military might, holding large-scale military exercises and unveiling new weapons and underground bases.

Just a day earlier, the country unveiled the new Ghadr-380 cruise missile with a range of 1,000 kilometers, equipped with electronic countermeasures systems.

Iran also unveiled a new underground naval base in the southern part of the country, the second such base announced in the past two weeks.

These military demonstrations come at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the West, especially after Donald Trump was re-elected as US president on January 20.

During his first term (2017-2021), Trump implemented a policy of "maximum pressure" against Iran, withdrawing from the nuclear deal and imposing heavy sanctions.

However, while demonstrating its military might, Tehran is also sending signals that it is ready to resume negotiations on its nuclear program, which has remained a major point of tension between Iran and the West in recent decades.
