The troops of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) have struck positions of the terrorist group "Islamic State" in Somalia, according to a publication on the official website of the command.

It specifies that the operation was carried out on March 29. The US military coordinated the strikes with the Somali government. Their targets were IS positions southeast of Bossaso in Puntland.

It is noted that the extremists posed a threat to American military personnel. AFRICOM does not plan to disclose further details about the operation.

On March 28, Semafor reported a letter from Somali leader Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to US President Donald Trump proposing the transfer of the port and air base of Berbera in Somaliland, as well as the port and air base of Bosaso in Puntland, under US control.

The facilities mentioned in the letter are not controlled by the federal authorities of Somalia.
