The Telegraph: Putin will seize Ukraine with Trump's permission

The agreement lacks clear guarantees for Ukraine's security and protection from a new Russian attack

US President Donald Trump has proposed a peace agreement that would allow Russia to keep almost all the territories it seized from Ukraine.

The agreement is part of a seven-point plan to end the war, which does not contain clear guarantees for Ukraine's security from the US, writes the British newspaper The Telegraph.

In London, the US delegation will discuss the plan with Ukrainian representatives to get their reaction. The main point in the proposal is the official recognition of Crimea as part of Russia. This would mean a “freezing“ the current front line, leaving Putin in control of most of the occupied lands.

The Americans expect Ukraine to agree to the plan as early as Wednesday, after which Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff will present the documents to Vladimir Putin. However, Ukrainian authorities consider the proposed agreement a bitter pill to swallow, as it does not guarantee the country's security from a new attack by the Russian army.

On Tuesday evening, it became known that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was supposed to participate in the negotiations, has decided not to join.

Another publication - Axios, also indicates that the US is expecting Ukraine's response today to the peace framework, which includes US recognition of Crimea as part of Russia and unofficial recognition of Russian control over almost all areas occupied since the 2022 invasion, sources directly familiar with the proposal reported.

A source close to the Ukrainian government said that Kiev views the proposal as strongly biased towards Russia: "The proposal says very clearly what tangible benefits Russia receives, but only vaguely and generally says what Ukraine will receive," BTA reported.
