Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel today of trying to drag the United States into a catastrophe in the Middle East, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is brazenly trying to dictate what US President Donald Trump can and cannot do in his diplomacy with Iran", Araghchi wrote on the social network "Ex".
Despite their rivalry lasting four decades, Iran and the United States began negotiations on April 12 with the mediation of Oman on the controversial issue of the Iranian nuclear program.
On April 27, Netanyahu called on the United States to reach an agreement with Tehran that would deprive Iran of all its capacity for uranium enrichment and prevent it from developing ballistic missiles. Iran, which considers these demands a red line in the negotiations, accused Benjamin Netanyahu of dictating US policy.
"The world also learned how Netanyahu directly interferes in the work of the US government to drag it into another catastrophe in our region," the Iranian foreign minister added. Abbas Araghchi pointed to the unwavering US support for Israel in the war in Gaza, as well as US strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The Houthis, who control large areas of war-torn Yemen, regularly attack Israeli territory and ships in the Red Sea in support of Palestinians in Gaza. "Moral support for Netanyahu's genocide in Gaza and the war waged in Netanyahu's name in Yemen have not helped the American people at all," Araghchi said, threatening consequences for any wrong move against Iran.
Yesterday, the Israeli prime minister vowed to retaliate against the Houthi rebels, but also against Iran. According to Netanyahu, Tehran has supported the rebels, who claimed responsibility for the missile attack on Israel's main international airport, with military means.
