Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the issue of disarmament and liquidation of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned in the republic, is under Ankara's control, with plans for Baghdad, Erbil (the administrative center of Iraqi Kurdistan) and Damascus to participate in it.
“From now on, the order for liquidation of the organization and its disarmament is under the control of our country's security services“, Erdogan told journalists after returning from Albania. - Negotiations are also underway with our colleagues in neighboring countries on how the terrorists will hand over their weapons beyond our borders. There are plans for the Baghdad and Erbil administrations to participate in this process.“ "When the weapons are handed over and the organization is completely eliminated, terrorism will be completely removed from Turkey's agenda," Erdogan was quoted as saying by the Anadolu Agency.
According to the Turkish president, eliminating the PKK "will also serve the peace, development and stability of Iraq and Syria." "We now have very good relations with the Syrian administration." "Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited Turkey twice and we had extremely productive meetings with him," the Turkish leader noted. He added that the issue of Syria's participation in the PKK disarmament process is being discussed, and relevant "meetings" with the Syrian authorities are being held by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Intelligence Director Ibrahim Kalin and Defense Minister Yasar Guler.
The PKK, banned in Turkey and recognized as a terrorist organization, held a congress at which it decided to dissolve itself and end its nearly 50-year armed confrontation with the republic's authorities. The congress communiqué stated that the party members are now turning to democratic and political methods of struggle.
