Putin visited Kursk region - for the first time since the defeat of the Ukrainian army - 1

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Russia's Kursk region for the first time since Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to him on April 26 that Ukrainian forces had been completely pushed out of the region, Reuters reported, citing an official statement from the Kremlin today, BTA reported.

Putin met with volunteers at a humanitarian aid headquarters and also visited the "Kursk II" nuclear power plant, the world agency specified. This nuclear power plant is under construction, TASS notes.

The Russian president had not visited the border region with Ukraine since the first half of March.

The Ukrainian army entered the Kursk region in August last year and seized territories there.

At the end of April, the chief of the general staff of the Russian army, General Valery Gerasimov, reported to President Vladimir Putin that Russian forces had regained full control over the Russian Kursk region. In August last year, Ukrainian troops invaded the border region with Ukraine and seized territories there.

"The chief of the general staff of the armed forces, Valery Gerasimov, reported to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin on the completion of the operation to liberate the Kursk region", Peskov said.

"Today, the last settlement on the territory of the Kursk region – "the village of Gormal, was liberated by the Ukrainian units stationed there," Gerasimov told Putin on April 26 during a meeting held via videoconference. "The Kiev regime's adventure has completely failed, and it has suffered huge losses," Putin himself said.
