New Polish President Promises Strong Resistance to Prime Minister Donald Tusk - 1

Poland's President-elect Karol Nawrocki said that Prime Minister Donald Tusk should prepare for "strong resistance from the presidential palace". This was reported by the DPA agency, referring to Nawrocki's first interview after his victory in Sunday's presidential election, BTA reports.

In the interview, Nawrocki called Tusk "the worst prime minister Poland has had since 1989" and stressed that he would react firmly and decisively to any "provocation" by the government.

The center-left coalition led by Tusk, which came to power in late 2023, is under increased political pressure after the presidential election loss of its candidate - the liberal mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski. The election victory of Nawrocki, supported by the conservative Law and Justice party and its leader Jarosław Kaczyński, is a blow to Tusk's attempts to push through pro-European reforms.

Nawrocki, a historian and known for his eurosceptic views, will have the right to veto legislative initiatives, which will significantly complicate the government's governance. Despite his harsh tone, he expressed readiness to cooperate with Tusk's cabinet on "key issues of national importance." Meanwhile, Donald Tusk announced that he would seek a vote of confidence in parliament on June 11 to confirm the stability of the ruling coalition and address the political challenges posed by the presidential election.
