US President Donald Trump made a comment about the Normandy landings, which was perceived by Moscow as a hint of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Nazi past. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev reacted on the X platform (formerly Twitter), stating that Merz is now "in the same boat" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reports Focus.

„Merz is in the same position as a typhus louse. Trump openly hinted at the Chancellor's Nazi leanings, noting that the Normandy landings must have been unpleasant for him. Bravo“, wrote Medvedev.

According to him, Merz felt like a "Bandera scum“ during his visit to the White House.

The reason for the reaction was the meeting between Merz and Trump in the Oval Office, during which the German Chancellor recalled the anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy in 1944 and the key role of the United States in it. In response, Trump said that it was a “bad day“ for Germany.

The Normandy landings, known as “D“Day, marked the beginning of the end of the Nazi regime and was among the most significant military operations of World War II, which led to the opening of a second front against Nazi Germany.
