American citizen Joseph Teter has been discharged from a psychiatric clinic and left Russia, TASS reported, citing Russian law enforcement agencies, according to which his whereabouts are currently unknown, BTA writes.
Teter was detained in Moscow in August last year and was later sent for forced psychiatric treatment. He has been charged with assaulting a police officer after a scandal at the "Radisson" Hotel in Moscow and abusing staff - something he denies. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison, Reuters notes.
The American was diagnosed with a mental disorder and in April he was sent for treatment at the "Alekseev" psychiatric clinic, but since "doctors had no reason to keep him in the clinic, he was discharged for outpatient treatment," TASS adds.
