In mid-May, Ukraine conducted an extremely successful test of a new ballistic missile for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The missile traveled almost 300 km and destroyed a Russian command post, which shows that it is ready for combat use, commented Valentin Badrak, military expert and director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies on the air of "Espresso" TV.
According to Badrak, the new missile program was launched in May 2022. After the first successful tests in July of the same year, President Zelensky began talking about the possibility of creating and completing the ballistic missile.
The expert emphasizes that since July 2024, the management of the missile program has been carried out correctly. It was then that the specialized Deputy Minister of Defense, General Klochko, appeared, who organized the entire program. The Main Directorate for Support of the Missile Program was also created in the Ministry of Defense.
"As far as I know, tests were held in mid-May, which are considered extremely successful - the missile traveled almost 300 km and destroyed a Russian command post, and it is very important that this is combat use“, commented Badrak.
After successful combat use, the missile is put into production. It is noted that the work of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Strategic Industries is synchronized, although before that the Ministry of Strategic Industries seriously slowed down the process.
"I don't know how many missiles we can expect in a month or a year, but I think it will be a very powerful buildup. The warhead of this missile is over 400 kg, and this is a very powerful arsenal. For comparison, the new American ballistic missile is only 91 kg. It is clear that we will have a powerful weapon. I hope that we will move forward, the main thing is to increase the scale quickly and very logically“, concludes Valentin Badrak.
