The Israeli army announced today that it had killed Ali Shadmani - the wartime chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The agency notes that Shadmani is considered the highest-ranking military commander in Iran. Two explosions have meanwhile echoed in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz, local media reported, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
"Two explosions exploded in Tabriz five minutes ago", wrote the newspaper "Ham Mihan". "Thick smoke was seen around Tabriz on Tuesday morning after an explosion," Mehr news agency reported, sharing video footage.
The city, located about 600 kilometers northwest of the capital Tehran, is home to Iran's largest air base. It has been the target of Israeli strikes in recent days, AFP noted.
