The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, the elite force of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said today that it had struck an Israeli foreign intelligence center, the Mossad, Agence France-Presse reported.
The Revolutionary Guards "hit the military intelligence center of the Zionist regime's army, AMAN, and the terrorist operations planning center of the Zionist regime, the Mossad, in Tel Aviv", a statement read on Iranian state television said.
"This center is currently burning" according to the same source. The report has not been independently confirmed. There has been no immediate reaction from Israel.
The Israeli army announced earlier today that it had eliminated a key Iranian military commander in a night strike, Agence France-Presse reported. The slain Ali Shadmani was described as a close confidant of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Following a "surprise opportunity overnight, the Israeli Air Force struck a command center in the heart of Tehran and eliminated Ali Shadmani - the highest-ranking military commander and a figure very close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei", the Israeli Air Force said in a statement.
For its part, Iran announced today that it had destroyed Israeli "strategic sites" overnight. "Various types of destructive rods, equipped with precise destruction and targeting capabilities, destroyed strategic positions of the Zionist regime in Tel Aviv and Haifa" in northern Israel, Gen. Kiyumars Heydari – commander of the army's ground forces, was quoted by state television.
