Israel launched a new series of strikes tonight on launchers and depots for surface-to-surface missiles in western Iran, Israeli military spokeswoman Effie Defrin said, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.

"Air Force planes are flying over launchers and depots for surface-to-surface missiles" and "hit those who try to return to these places to remove ammunition from previously hit targets", the spokesman explained.

An Israeli strike hit buildings near the police headquarters in Tehran, injuring several police officers, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked US President Donald Trump for "support in protecting Israeli skies" in the war with Iran, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a televised address by Netanyahu.

"I would like to thank President Trump, a great friend of Israel", he announced on the sixth day of the conflict, in which Israel and Iran exchanged new strikes. "Thank you for your support, for being on our side and thank you for the US's help in protecting Israeli skies."

After decades of hostility and a prolonged undeclared war, tensions between Israel and Iran escalated into open hostilities on Friday. Israel launched a massive bombing campaign against the Islamic Republic, which responded with massive rocket fire.

In his address, Netanyahu said his country was striking with "tremendous force", but acknowledged that Israel had suffered painful losses.

At least 24 people have been killed in Israel since Friday and hundreds have been injured, according to the Israeli leader's office.

On Sunday, Iran announced that at least 224 people, including military commanders, nuclear physicists and civilians, have been killed in Israeli bombing since the start of hostilities, Agence France-Presse noted.
