The Palestinian Health Ministry said 73 people were killed in various areas of the Gaza Strip today as they tried to receive humanitarian aid, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.
The highest number of victims was in the northern part of Gaza, where at least 67 Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid were killed, according to the Health Ministry and local hospitals. More than 150 people were wounded, some of them in critical condition, local hospitals reported.
The statements did not make it clear who was responsible for the killings - the Israeli army, armed gangs or the deaths as a result of other shelling. However, witnesses said Israeli soldiers shot at people, the AP noted.
Earlier today, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that 12 Palestinians were killed by Israeli shelling while waiting to receive food in northern Gaza and the Rafah area. Ten of them died in northern Gaza, while the other two Palestinians were shot north of Rafah, WAFA said.
