Romania is going through the hottest period of the year. The peak will be today and tomorrow, when the mercury in thermometers is expected to reach 42-43 degrees in the shade, the Romanian National Meteorological Service reported, BTA reported.

The warmest in the last days of July will be in the southern part of the country. A red code has been issued for 15 counties and Bucharest, where 34 degrees were measured at 11 a.m. local (and Bulgarian) time. The temperature and humidity index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units, and the night will be tropical again with values between 20 and 22 degrees.

“Due to the sweltering heat in Bucharest, over 4,000 people have needed an ambulance in the last 72 hours. Many people have fainted due to the hot weather“, reports PRO TV.

The heat wave will be followed by strong storms, local meteorologists report. They have already issued a yellow code for Transylvania and Moldova, where heavy rains, lightning and wind gusts of 70 km/h are expected today. Hail is also not ruled out.

In Bucharest, the weather is expected to cool down from Tuesday.
