US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin next week.
However, it will still be difficult to hold a meeting on such short notice, CNN commented.
According to two sources on the television, US President Donald Trump has informed European leaders of his intention to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon - probably next week, and then to hold a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
An EU source confirmed the content of the conversation.
A White House official noted that although Trump has announced his intention to meet with Putin next week, holding such a meeting will likely be difficult, given the upcoming negotiations and logistical difficulties, he listed CNN.
"The Russians have expressed a desire to meet with President Trump, and the president is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelensky.
President Trump wants this brutal war to end," White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said.
Earlier on Wednesday, a White House official said that "the imposition of secondary sanctions is still expected on Friday."
