Ukraine is ready to accept a ceasefire, "which would end the war on the current front lines", but is against international recognition of the territory controlled by Russia, writes The Telegraph, citing sources cited by Focus.

"The country's constitution does not allow the president or parliament to unilaterally change the country's territorial composition or to reconcile with the violation of its territorial integrity", the article states.

However, according to the publication, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admits that the liberation of the territories seized by Russia by military means is no longer possible and diplomatic solutions will have to be sought.

On 7 August, the Polish media Onet reported that the special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff, during his visit to Moscow on August 6, handed over to Russian President Vladimir Putin a “very advantageous offer“ from the Donald Trump administration.

According to the media outlet, the key points are the following: a ceasefire in Ukraine, but not peace; de facto recognition of the territories seized by Russia by postponing the discussion of this issue for 49 or 99 years; the lifting of most sanctions imposed on Russia and, in the long term, a return to energy cooperation, i.e. imports of Russian gas and oil.

At the same time, the package of proposals does not include a guarantee of non-expansion of NATO. Moscow also did not receive a promise that military support for Ukraine would be terminated.

On the same day, the Ukrainian President's communications adviser Dmitry Lytvyn denied this information, Radio NV reports.

“Yesterday during the conversation between the leaders, nothing like this was mentioned, and Witkoff did not say anything like this, he talked about other things”, emphasizes Lytvyn.
