Alexander Lukashenko: I will respond with nuclear weapons if someone attacks Belarus

The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told Time magazine that he is ready to use nuclear weapons in the event of military aggression against the republic. Fragments of the interview were published by BelTA, Focus reports.

"Neither Putin, nor I, no one wants to use nuclear weapons. We are not suicide bombers. But let your satellites, your friends, allies also understand this, and I openly stated: if someone crosses our border, we will respond immediately with all the weapons we have. This is not a threat, I am just warning,", Lukashenko pointed out.

"Russia has enough forces to support us. We are preparing for war. I stated it frankly: every day, every month we are preparing for war in order to avoid it. We know what to do. We have learned lessons from all the recent wars," he points out.

"Our concept is based on the fact that we are ready to inflict unacceptable damage on Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia - on anyone who will fight against us. Unacceptable damage. I am one of the elements that I have just described. Therefore, they understand that in this case we may not win the war, but we will deal them a serious blow. And Russia, to the extent that we need it today, helps and will help as an ally," Lukashenko emphasizes.

He also points out that he has signed the relevant decree regulating the handling of nuclear weapons. “It is in the warehouses of those with whom it should be. We clearly understand and present what this is, how to do it. The goals have been set“, the President of Belarus stated.

In the same interview, he stated that the first positions for the deployment of the Russian missile complex “Oreshnik“ have already been determined and are being prepared in Belarus. The complexes, as he expects, will be delivered by the end of this year.
