Ukraine reacted to the meeting between Putin and Trump: Disgusting. Shameful. And in the end – useless. - 1

The Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform noted on the occasion of yesterday's Trump-Putin meeting in Anchorage, in the US state of Alaska, that the planned broad format of the negotiations between the US and Russia was canceled, BTA writes.

„It was expected to hold a working lunch with high-ranking members of Trump's team, but it was canceled and in the end only negotiations were held in the “three-on-three” format, Ukrinform noted. On the American side, in addition to Trump, the meeting was attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff. Putin was accompanied during the talks by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov.

Ukrinform published a cartoon by Maxim Palenko, in which the red carpet Putin walks on is Trump's red tie. A red carpet was laid out for the two leaders on the runway of the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, where their planes landed.

The Ukrainian news agency also emphasized Putin's words at the joint press conference with Trump that "Ukraine's security must be guaranteed". "I hope that Kiev and the Europeans will look at our dialogue constructively" is another quote from the Russian leader, which Ukrinform focuses on.

Meanwhile, in an editorial, the Ukrainian online newspaper "Kiev Independent" called the Alaska meeting "ultimately useless".

"Disgusting. Shameful. And ultimately useless. These were the words that came to mind as we watched the Alaska summit unfold. On our screens, a dictator with blood on his hands, a war criminal, received a royal welcome in the land of the free - while his attack drones were heading for our cities," the article in "Kiev Independent" begins.

On the eve of the Alaska meeting, US President Donald Trump said he wanted "a truce today" and that there would be "serious consequences" for his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin if he did not, the publication recalls. "Yet, after a meeting of about two and a half hours behind closed doors, Trump and Putin emerged to share one thing... nothing. There had been "progress" and some "understanding", but the two had not reached an agreement on "the most important issue" – obviously Ukraine", the online newspaper continues.

"Trump did not get what he wanted. And Putin? He certainly got it. From the moment he stepped off the plane on American soil, the Russian dictator was radiant. No longer an international pariah, he was finally accepted – and respected – from the leader of the free world", concludes "Kiev Independent".

According to Vitaly Saenko of the Ukrainian UNIAN agency, the meeting in Alaska did not change Putin's rhetoric, but on the contrary - he continued with the false theses about Ukraine.

"Putin continued with the lies that we have heard many times. He called the mass murders of Ukrainian citizens and the capture of Ukrainian cities "Ukrainian conflict", UNIAN points out.
