The open threats against Hungary by Volodymyr Zelensky will not remain without consequences. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
„Zelensky openly threatened Hungary. He admitted that they are striking the „Druzhba“ oil pipeline because we do not support their accession to the European Union. "This once again proves that the Hungarians made the right decision," Orbán wrote on social media on the page of the "Fight Club" community, created by supporters of the ruling Fidesz party - Hungarian Civic Union.
The prime minister noted that "with the help of blackmail, explosions and threats" Ukraine will not be able to secure its accession to the EU. Orbán also warned that "Zelensky's words will not remain without consequences."
Last week, the Ukrainian armed forces carried out several drone and missile strikes on the infrastructure of the "Druzhba" oil pipeline on Russian territory. Oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia have been suspended while the pipeline is being repaired. Budapest is in contact with Moscow on this issue. On August 24, Zelensky was asked at a press conference in Kiev whether the attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline had increased the chances of overturning Hungary's veto on Ukraine's accession to the EU. "We have always supported the friendship between Ukraine and Hungary, and now the existence of this "friendship" depends on Hungary," Zelensky replied.
His statements were described in Budapest as a direct threat and "encroachment on the sovereignty" of the country. "We call on Volodymyr Zelensky to stop threatening Hungary and not to threaten our energy security," Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said.
On August 25, the head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's cabinet, Gergely Huyás, reminded journalists at a briefing that Hungary is "the number one supplier of electricity to Ukraine." "Without us, Ukraine's energy security will not be guaranteed," he said. Hungary has already warned its eastern neighbors that it could cut off their electricity supplies if they do not desist from their hostile actions.
