The European Union is considering the idea of imposing sanctions against Kazakhstan, reports Bloomberg.
„The EU is considering the possibility of using its tool to combat the circumvention of measures against Kazakhstan for the first time“, the agency reported, citing sources.
According to their data, in such a scenario, Astana would be prohibited from importing certain equipment, which, according to European officials, could be redirected to Russia. The adoption of these measures would require evidence and support from all EU members.
The head of European diplomacy earlier stated that secondary sanctions are being discussed as part of the preparation of the 19th package of restrictions against Moscow. She acknowledged that adopting new measures is becoming increasingly difficult.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, sanctions are a double-edged sword. Russia has repeatedly stated that it considers such unilateral actions illegal and opposes them.
