An appeals court has upheld a conviction according to which US President Donald Trump must pay $83 million to American writer and journalist Elizabeth Jean Carroll for defamation, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
In this case, Trump was convicted in the first instance in January last year on charges that he defamed the journalist who was suing him for rape committed in the 1990s.
Elizabeth Jean Carroll is currently 81 years old. She was a journalist for the publication “El“.
In 2019, she accused Trump of raping her in the fitting room of a large department store in New York in 1996. Trump denied these allegations and slandered the journalist, for which he was convicted.
