Donald Trump: I'm sending the National Guard to Memphis - 1

US President Donald Trump announced today that he will send the National Guard to Memphis, in the American state of Tennessee, due to concerns about crime in the city, which he aims to address with the support of the mayor and the state governor, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

Republican Trump told the "Fox News" television channel that "the mayor is happy" and "the governor is happy" about the upcoming deployment of military personnel. Memphis Mayor Paul Young is a Democrat, and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is a Republican, the AP notes.

Trump said the city was "very concerned" and "we're going to fix this, just like we did in Washington", where he also deployed National Guard troops and federal law enforcement officers.

Since deploying National Guard troops to Los Angeles and Washington, Trump has openly commented that he might send troops to some of the US cities where support for Democrats is strongest, including Chicago and Baltimore, because, according to him, this is necessary to deal with crime.

The US president said he would prefer to do this in Chicago, where local politicians fiercely oppose his plans, but added that the city is "hostile" and is full of "professional agitators".
