The Center for Emergency Medical Assistance by air (CSMPV) transported a 54-year-old patient with a thoracic aorta dissection to the University Multidisciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) “St. Catherine”, the CSMPV announced on Facebook, quoted by BTA.
The helicopter took off at 16:10 from Sofia and landed at 16:34 at the hospital heliport in the city of Panagyurishte. At 4:58 p.m. he traveled with the patient to Sofia and at 5:18 p.m. he landed at the helipad of St. Ekaterina UMBAL. From there he was met by a resuscitation team and taken for emergency treatment in the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the medical facility.
Aortic dissection is a severe, life-threatening condition in which the inner lining of the aorta tears and requires immediate treatment, the publication states.
A 7-year-old child in serious condition, injured in a traffic accident, was transported by medical helicopter from Pleven to Sofia earlier this month.
