For the first time: Bulgaria is hosting the European Congress of Neurosurgery  - 1

Bulgaria is hosting the European Congress of Neurosurgery for the first time. This was announced by the Bulgarian Society of Neurosurgery, BTA reported.

The opening of the congress will be this evening at the NDK. The official guest of the event will be the speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan, who will address the guests and delegates of the forum. More than 1,600 medical specialists from all over the world will participate in the congress, which will last until October 17.

The president of the congress of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies is Prof. Nikolay Gabrovski, who is also the president of the Bulgarian Society of Neurosurgery. The motto of the congress this year is “Innovations. Education. Leadership“. The forum's program includes dozens of sessions dedicated to technological progress, innovative treatment methods, and new, original research on the brain and nervous system.

One of the speakers at the congress will be Prof. Jocelyn Block from the Department of Neurosurgery of the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, who will present the topic of implantable technologies to restore the ability to walk in patients with a severed spinal cord. A lecture will also be given by Prof. Peter Rolfsema from the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Amsterdam Medical Center, who is developing neurotechnology for visual prostheses for blind people in order to restore a rudimentary form of vision.

A panel with the participation of the European Commissioner for Innovation, Scientific Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova, Prof. Martin Vechev - Professor of Computer Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Zurich, is also planned within the congress, which will talk about the latest achievements and emerging trends in artificial intelligence, as well as Raicho Raichev, founder and executive director of EnduroSat and founder of the Space Challenges program - an educational platform for space sciences and engineering.
