The number of abortions in our country decreased by nearly 1,000 in 2024, compared to the previous year, according to data from the National Center for Public Health and Analysis. The most significant decrease is in spontaneous abortions, and the number of procedures for termination of pregnancy at the request of the woman remains the same, writes BNR.
About 17 thousand abortions were performed last year, with more than half of them being at the request of the pregnant women.
The most common desired termination of pregnancy occurred in women over 30 years of age - nearly 5,000 cases. Abortions at the request of children under 15 years of age were also registered - in 21 girls.
Spontaneous termination of pregnancy is also observed most often in women over 30 years of age and affected a total of 4,600 women in our country in 2024, unlike the previous year, when their number exceeded 5,400. The trend of the largest number of abortions occurring in large districts, such as Sofia City, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas, continues.
The fewest abortions are in Lovech District - 32 per year.
