Toni Nikolov: "Emotional politics" is entering Bulgarian public life

The philosopher comments on the role of social networks and the day of reflection before the elections

On the day of reflection before the parliamentary elections, philosopher and journalist Toni Nikolov commented on the air of “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov“ on NOVA NEWS that “emotional politics” is increasingly entering our country. According to him, today citizens largely trust their own feelings, instead of facts and analysis.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that election day remains a key moment for expressing a civic position. “This is one of the few moments, besides protests, in which we declare our will“, Nikolov pointed out, defining the day of reflection as a kind of “window“ for realizing this choice.

The philosopher also drew attention to the role of social networks, which, in his opinion, contribute to the erosion of trust. “Myths, fears and opposition are easily spread in the online space, which turns elections into a field for manipulation and the so-called “black technologies”, he believes. In this context, Nikolov emphasized that the day of reflection should be a time for critical thinking – to distinguish propaganda from truth and to make an informed choice.

As an example of broader political processes, he pointed to the situation in Hungary, where, according to him, strong political figures emerge in critical times. The philosopher and journalist identified the winner of the elections in Hungary and leader of the center-right TISA party, Peter Magyar, as such a figure.
