Toma Bykov: In the event of early elections, the introduction of the euro will turn into a crisis

No one claims that entering the eurozone is entering paradise, he said

If we go to early elections in 3 or 5 months, the process of introducing the euro in Bulgaria will turn into a crisis. This was warned to the Bulgarian National Radio by Toma Bykov from GERB-SDF.

"With considerable effort, if you will, by manual control, this process of speculation and all the fears that people have will be managed, if there is a regular government", he emphasized.

PP-DB do not have the potential to overthrow the government, Bykov expressed his opinion regarding the motion for a vote of no confidence.

"The vote of no confidence is the strongest political tool of the opposition, but it requires some kind of intelligence when used. It's their job if they decided to play idle moves, because this is an idle move. As far as I can see, they are preparing for the presidential elections. I have not heard that they are preparing for early parliamentary elections. But why are they doing it at this very moment - for me they are making a political mistake.

In his words, this is a "dead end for this formation in its current form". According to him, at this point it was right for all parties that had previously said they were in favor of Bulgaria's admission to the eurozone to make these efforts together.

Regarding President Rumen Radev's statements about the eurozone and the concerns he expressed, Bykov commented:

"I did not expect that the president would be the spokesperson for that part of society that needs to be informed about these processes".

According to him, the president is dissatisfied with the fact that Bulgaria has a regular government:

"The whole operation around this hypothetical referendum - his motivations are 2. The first is if he can drive a wedge into the ruling coalition. The second - to prepare the ground, using the state resources that were given to him as president, to prepare the ground for his political project. He needs faster elections, he does not need to be unemployed for 1 year after his mandate ends. This is evident from the pathos with which he speaks. I do not see authentic pathos in his speech, but rather sloganeering.

According to him, there were high prices in previous years, without a convergence report and the eurozone.

"Now the ECB says - you meet the criteria, Radev did not understand - he says that we do not meet the criteria".

Regarding the letter of the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov to the finance ministers of the eurozone, Toma Bikov expressed his opinion:

"It does not look like the action of a Bulgarian nationalist, as Mr. Kostadinov claims to be. The Bulgarian nationalist is trying to solve Bulgarian problems within the community - for better or for worse. To send a letter to European leaders asking them not to accept the country into the eurozone, because in this way you have to invent a new cause... For me, the cause - not to do something - is not a cause. That does not leave you in history".

Perhaps we cannot see, when we are in the forest, the overall picture of the forest, but we see the individual trees, commented the GERB-SDF MP.

"It is good at such a moment, when Bulgarian society needs to be united, to make these efforts together. No one claims that entering the eurozone is entering paradise, from there all problems disappear, people suddenly get rich, etc. On the contrary. After that, there will be even greater challenges, but we will also have much more opportunities to solve them. It depends on us".

He is sure that by this time next year, the fears will have disappeared.

I don't see Radev showing any desire to participate in any dialogue at all, said Bykov on the issue of the services. According to him, the problem is the broken dialogue between the institutions.

And about the contract with "Botaş", the MP is categorical:

"The problem with "Botaş" is not new. There has been a problem with this contract from the very beginning. This is a losing contract.".

According to him, this contract, which is long-term, is not illegal, but it is beyond the spirit of the Constitution. In his words, we are losing money from it. "We are doomed to rely on the goodwill of Turkish President Erdogan,", believes Toma Bykov.

"Botaş&quot is an unfortunate agreement, he repeated again and added his opinion: "There is no such need for either Bulgaria or third countries".

According to him, it is not worth sacrificing strategic goals for these things.

Bulgaria needs a president after 2027 who will restore institutional dialogue and formulate a positive agenda for society, the GERB MP was categorical. In his words, these elections should not be underestimated, because "we see how important the presidential institution is".
