I think we all know what the condition of the roads is - we all travel, drive on them. In a word, the condition is unsatisfactory.
This was commented to BNT by the acting Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Violeta Koritarova.
At a meeting with the management of API and the regional road administrations in the country, she commissioned an analysis to be prepared within a week in order to know where urgent repairs should be planned.
One of the main actions that will be taken is ensuring the safety of the critical points of the road infrastructure, clearing grass and bushes, restoring the road markings and the missing road signs, removing the elements that obstruct the visibility of the intersections, explained Koritarova.
"The situation is critical everywhere. Social networks abound with photos that focus on irregularities on the roads. Therefore, our goal is to be able to take the most urgent actions as quickly as possible. The roads will not be fixed with a magic wand and in a short period of time, but their maintenance must be started", added the regional minister.
According to her, the roads in our country have not been repaired in the last 3 years. During this period, there are no current contracts for road maintenance.
"Only emergency repairs were carried out, but unfortunately the financial resource has already been exhausted there. Therefore, the first thing I decided quite responsibly was to restore the work on selecting contractors", Violeta Koritarova also said.
MRRD must pay BGN 200 million to construction companies for activities performed under road maintenance contracts, and the interest on them is still almost the same, Koritarova specified.
The regional minister also said that the "Thrakia" it needs to be repaired in sections in the Sliven and Yambol regions, but this will be done after the end of the active tourist season, in order not to create traffic jams on the roads and avoid traffic jams in the summer.
Koritarova also commented on the repaving of the road section where the serious accident with a NSO car near Aksakovo took place, in which a person died. She pointed out that there were gaps in the work and that is why the director of the Regional Road Administration in Varna was removed from work, but the repair was commissioned as early as May 13.
"Indeed, repair works are scheduled to be carried out in May on the Varna - Dobrich road section on the territory of the Varna region. The assignment is already on May 13, i.e. long before the accident happened. I don't think anyone would hide anything in this case. What is important is to understand the objective truth about this tragic incident. Both we and the prosecutor's office will do our work responsibly to find out the reasons for laying the asphalt," she explained.
